End Of Summer Cleaning Tips

As summer comes to a close and Chicagoans all over the city are getting ready for fall, now is a great time to make sure your home is ready for the new season as well. Chicago cleaning services can help you tidy up after this summer, get ready for fall, and eliminate stress at the beginning of next summer. Making the extra effort now can make a huge difference when next summer rolls around. Below are some helpful end-of-summer cleaning tips to help you get organized and make the transition as stress-free as possible.

• Prepare the air conditioner for fall. Air conditioner filters should be cleaned at least once a year to remove the dust, dirt and debris that can build up over time. Window units are particularly notorious for their grime collection. As the days become cooler and air conditioners are not running as often, remove the filter from the unit and wash it thoroughly with soap and water. When you’re finished with the unit for the season, cover it up to keep out drafts and dirt.

• Clean the grill. As summer ends, so does Chicago’s grilling season. Rather than allowing this summer’s gunk to sit on the grates for the next eight months, give the whole grill a good scrub before packing it up for the season. Depending on the type of grill, remove either the grates or the burners and wash them with hot soapy water to remove any stuck-on food. Wash the inside of the hood and any grease pans or other removable parts. Soak everything in hot water with dish soap, and use a wire grill brush for extra cleaning power.

• Prepare summer items for storage. Patio furniture, pool accessories, lawn chairs and beach towels are all great relics of summer, but they aren’t typically used year-round. Identify these summer-specific items in your home, clean them thoroughly and neatly pack them away for next year. Rather than holding onto unwanted household accessories for the next year, donate any items that you know you won’t be using again, and throw out anything that is broken or otherwise unusable.

• Give the house a thorough cleaning. Whether you’re doing it yourself or enlisting a professional cleaning service, thoroughly cleaning every room in your home is an excellent way to de-clutter and help your home feel refreshed and renewed at the beginning of a new season. Deep clean appliances, scrub the floors and clean the carpets to remove any filth that may have built up over the summer. Clean and organize the garage and make sure everything you need for fall is at your fingertips.
